Josh White, Bridal Veil Falls, Oregon

Our plan was simple, run two large waterfalls in one day. We picked two that could possibly be run in a short period of time, but access on the second would prove to be more effort than it was worth. At 7:00am Josh White, Eli Pyke, Lana Young and I drove over to Bridal Veil. It was in and looked good, but the put in for this one does not look so good. It's a little sketchy. We all had a great time on this one, Eli even ran it twice, but breaking his boat on the second run. I didn't tuck hard enough and my paddle came back into my helmet, snaping my right blade off on the landing.

We finished @ 8:30am and went over to the second drop. Waterfall #2 was quite the endevor. Access was tough because the main trail is always way to crowded to consider so we went in the back way. We started hiking up trail #420/Larch Mountain, up Wahkeena Falls, over the ridge, and down into the creek. We droped down below Hidden Falls to the lip of this drop that stands @60+ feet. I had hiked into this one earlier in the year with Bryan Youngs and we found a small, but deep spot in the landing zone of the pool and now it had twice the flow. It took a while for us to consider this one and in the end only Eli ran it, and he ran it twice.

We had a steep hike back down and we were finished by 12:30pm.

Outrageous photos! I used to live in Portland and Salem (now live in Ajijic, Mex.) and have hiked into many of these Gorge waterfalls. What an INSANE adventure. What do they say? "There are old kayakers and there are bold kayakers, but there are no old, bold kayakers..." Take care, Jim
